Chester Counselling offers individual counselling over a range of troubles:
Stress, anxiety, depression, confidence/assertiveness, family or relationship issues, sex and intimacy, grief loss and bereavement, life transitions and adjustments.
One to one counselling aims to give you the opportunity to explore your thoughts feelings and situation with a view to effecting change.
By coming to counselling you invite a counsellor to accompany you on a tricky part of your life journey, much like a passenger in a car. To use this image the counsellor only takes charge of control if there is a significant risk to you the client or others.
Normally however you, as "driver" remain in the driving seat while the counsellor and you will negotiate a path which works better for you.
The aim of counselling is not to take you somewhere and deposit you there but to work to discover a better way, one you can continue by yourself between sessions and as counselling ends.
The process of counselling whatever the problem is to explore, understand and change (G Egan).
Talking it through makes it easier to see the problem outside your head and exploring can help release new ways of problem solving which you as client are able to experiment with ideas between sessions so they can notice changes and see evidence of how change can happen.
Number of sessions and their pace (the counselling contract) are mutually agreed by client and counsellor. Counselling aims to work toward a good ending for the work so it is important to have goals for the counselling, established as the beginning.
Contacting a counsellor can be a step towards change but it may feel daunting, particularly if you don't know what to expect. Click here for more information about the counselling process.
